You may be reading this book because you want to work in the
sports industry, or maybe you’re just curious about how things
work and what goes on behind the scenes. Whatever the reason, I’m
grateful you are here.

This is my story of overcoming the odds in one of the most
competitive and highly sought-after industries. It is intended to shed
light on areas I feel are often overlooked. I hope to inspire, enlighten,
and maybe even entertain you.

My goal is to pull back the curtain to illuminate what’s real, and to
share insight on how to navigate the storms, how to layer up and stay
prepared for the unexpected, how to read the terrain, and ultimately
how to play the game without losing yourself, your integrity, or your
passion.

We’ll discuss what it takes to thrive, and the psychology and inner
workings of a global industry that is glamorous and unforgiving.
This business is a grind, a nonstop hustle that can be quite the roller
coaster.

You live and die by your clients. Loyalty is a prize to be closely
guarded, but if you expect it, you’re going to be disappointed. Your
appearance most likely will be used against you in ways it’s hard to
even comprehend, and being a woman presents additional and entirely different challenges. It can also be an asset at times; finessing this dynamic takes skill, time, and a lot of grace.

I launched BG Sports Enterprises Inc. in 2007 (now called “BGSE
Inc.”) and built an international sports branding and representation
agency from the ground up. Since then, I’ve worked with some of the
biggest legends of our time, with emerging talent, and everyone in
between across multiple sports.

It’s been an incredible journey—and yet, after almost 20 years, I feel
as though I’m just getting started. Over that time, opportunities have
allowed me to wear many hats, including professional athlete, strength
and conditioning coach, sports agent, sports marketing agent, publicist, athlete manager, event producer, brand strategist, and others.

This book has taken over 10 years to write from all over the
world – across the US, my favorite cities in Europe (Paris, London,
Monaco, Venice) and throughout the Swiss Alps. The journey reflects
my personal navigation between showing up every day and “doing the
work” that builds relationships and reputation IRL, and the reality of
today’s constant drive to build your own brand.

The technology boom has significantly shifted our culture, as it
changed communication methods connecting the world in ways like
never before.

As I write, AI technology is in its infancy, but is already taking over
processes previously mastered only by humans and quickly shifting our way of life. Sometimes the future seems scary. To me, this makes it all the more important to maintain human connection, and authentic relationships. I hope what I’ve learned encourages you to face your own challenges with confidence and resilience—to avoid similar pitfalls and gain insight on your own path.
